The gallery, a project started by her partner Albie Bailey, is now in a new dedicated space at Clementina Ceramics, located in the Tollgate  Industrial Centre in Woodstock. This new space is light and welcoming, and the first, opening exhibition is called ‘Between the Spaces’ – joint exhibition with Ben Coutouvidis exhibiting paintings, drawings and sculptures and her works with ceramics.

Clementina CeramicsBen and her had spoken together around the theme, which can be interpreted in many ways,. Some of his still life works incorporate Clementina’s ceramics, and there are references to the quiet and muted tones of the still life works of Giorgio Morandi. The theme of ‘Between the Spaces’ are reflected in the spaces between the objects in the paintings, the works of Clementina’s and his own, and the new galley space itself.

Clementina explains that they tried to produce works that resonate with each other.. Some of it does and sometimes they have gone off on a tangent. Ben’s sculptural pieces include wacky cats. Ben is an eccentric artist and brings a fun element into the work he does.  So his cats are very quirky and in various media.

Between the spacesHer response as a ceramicist? Because they had started with the concept of still life, she wanted to produce small groups of objects  that work together. She has also produced a series of wall plates with faces – going off on a tangent and seeing how they relate to one another.

The artists have given us much to contemplate, and LOTS of spaces to fill our minds. You will need to see the exhibition to join al the dots between the spaces.

Attending the opening, in the lucky draw, my number was chosen – and I’m now the lucky owner of a wacky cat by  Ben Coutouvidis! Visit the exhibition and ENJOY!
