From 21 June 2014, Transport for Cape Town (TCT)will be issuing free myconnect cards to residents of Mitchells Plain and Khayelitsha.
The first phase of the MyCiTi N2 Express service will be launched on 5 July 2014 and residents of Mitchells Plain and Khayelitsha are urged to collect their free myconnect cards which will enable them to travel on the MyCiTi buses.
The roll out of this service is another example reflecting the ethos of World Design Capital 2014 – Live Design. Transform Life.
Passengers need a myconnect card to travel and load money to pay for their trips on the N2 Express service, as cash is not accepted on the buses. The myconnect card normally costs R35, but these will be issued for free to residents at MyCiTi kiosks until Saturday 19 July 2014. Residents will have to pay R30 for the Mover Points which will be pre-loaded on their free myconnect cards and they are requested to please take along their identity documents and birth certificates for children four years and older in order for the cards to be registered in their names.
In Mitchells Plain, the cards will be available at the Golden Arrow Bus Service kiosk in the Town Centre from 08:00 until 16:30. In Khayelitsha the cards will be issued at the Desmond Tutu Sport and Recreation Centre and the Khayelitsha CBD Multipurpose Centre also between 08:00 and 16:30. In addition, residents can visit the website or call 0800 65 64 63 for more information. Call centre agents will be able to respond to their questions in Afrikaans, isiXhosa and English.
The roll-out of the N2 Express service is the beginning of a process of bringing affordable, decent and quality public transport to our residents who are living on the periphery of the city. Furthermore the City believes the issuing of the free myconnect cards will go a long way towards making the service accessible to more residents in these areas.
The N2 Express is a top-up service which will see buses travelling from Khayelitsha and Mitchells Plain to the Civic Centre station in central Cape Town on the N2 freeway.
