David Kuijers and Tania Babb have been exhibiting together at The Cape Gallery since 2005. The fun, whimsical approach to their art brings an appropriately easy going feel to the summer months.
David Kuijers blurs the line between art and design. His light-hearted subject matter, often humorously ambiguous, allows him to drown out the unnecessary stresses of day to day life and appreciate the art making process. David has been working as a full time artist since 1999, having studied graphic design and illustration at Cape Tecknikon and working in the field for some time before pursuing art. His notable commissions include work for The President Hotel; Sea Point, The Radisson Hotel; Granger Bay, Constantia Medi Clinic, Tiger Brand Food Head Offices, Dole Export, Prices Food and, Da Vinci Hotel; Johannesburg.
As with David, art making is a serious but pleasurable pursuit for Tania Babb. Her fluid ceramic sculptures are a celebration of colour, texture and surface. Tania is inspired by people; their relationships to themselves, to others and to animals. She captures gestures and movements that silently reveal inner attitudes. A successful ceramist with a graphic design background, her sculptures have been displayed both locally and internationally, including exhibitions held in France, Korea, Germany, London and USA, among others. Her work reached the finals of the Brett Kebble Art Awards in 2003.
