Come and be part of The Everywoman Project

The Everywoman Project is a textile artwork connecting the women of Cape Town – one stitch at a time. Join Womanzone for one of 8 workshops at the Zeitz MOCCA at the V&A Waterfront Silo District, starting this Saturday, 13th February.  No experience necessary, all that’s required that you can thread a needle and know how to sew.

Workshops at the Zeitz MOCCA are limited to 10 people each and all COVID 19 protocols will be observed. You will be safe, sanitized and socially distant. Tea and coffee will be served . Entrance to the Zeitz MOCCA will be free for volunteers who will be welcome to visit other exhibitions before or after the workshop.

BOOKING IS ESSENTIAL: To sign up for one of the workshops, email Beryl on hipzone@mweb.co.za stating preferred day and time (see below), name, email and phone number.

The Everywoman Project

“With the help of several hundred women we have nearly 4000 fabric ‘yoyo’s’ from iconic shweshwe. The fabric was kindly donated by Da Gama Textiles for decoration purposes on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Women’s March on August 9th 1956. The yoyo’s were made at many workshops in different communities around Cape Town using the left over fabric.
The plan is to turn these 4000 yoyo’s into one glorious rainbow textile artwork under the guiding eye of artist-designer Mara Fleischer. Construction will take place at the Zeitz MOCCA courtesy of the Education Department where it will be displayed for a short period before going to its final home at the Artscape Theatre Centre on the Foreshore.
