Firstly: Happy Birthday to the Father of our nation!

To cater for the overwhelming number of people wishing to view the Cape Town Honours Nelson Mandela exhibition, the Cape Town Civic Centre will open on weekends and public holidays.

From this weekend the Civic Centre concourse will be open between 10:00 and 16:00, with the same opening hours applying to public holidays.

Since opening the exhibition, we have been inundated with requests from individuals, community groups and schools wishing to view the installation. Local and international media crews have been filming the exhibition in the Civic Centre as part of their special 95th birthday tributes. I don’t think we’ve ever had as many visitors to the Civic Centre as we’ve welcomed over the past fortnight.

One thing we can be entirely certain about is that Madiba continues to inspire, he continues to unite, he continues to symbolise the hope we all have for our wonderful and special country.

The exhibition is the centre-point of a year-long consultative programme involving the City and its citizens that will culminate in the adoption by the City of a new set of values based on values and principles associated with Mr Mandela.
