The City of Cape Town has launched a public drive to encourage any visitors to the Nelson Mandela Legacy Exhibition, currently on display at the Civic Centre, to write personal festive season messages to Madiba.
A pair of light boxes with colourful tags have been installed at the Nelson Mandela Legacy Exhibition for the public to leave their messages. The messages will be collected for three weeks, before being dispatched in a special giant Cape Town festive season bag to Mr Mandela.
“The response to this exhibition has been overwhelmingly positive, with large numbers of people having viewed the exhibition. It is also encouraging that tour operators have seen fit to showcase the exhibition to tourists as one of the highlights of a Mother City tour. We are very proud to have been able to host this important exhibition. It is a fitting tribute to Nelson Mandela’s legacy”, noted Executive Mayor of Cape Town, Alderman Patricia de Lille.
“I would like to encourage visitors to Cape Town over the Festive Season to visit the Civic Centre and view the exhibition for themselves. With school holidays around the corner, the City hopes to replace the vibrant visits of school groups with an extra influx of visitors from elsewhere in South Africa and further afield.”
The Nelson Mandela Legacy Exhibition will be on display until March next year. Entry is free.
