Drawing on design at CCDI Night Market
Don’t miss out on CCDI’s exciting Night Market, which offers a host of beautiful handmade items, and get creative by trying out a new and engaging form of direct-drawing printmaking called trace monotyping.
Whether you are an experienced artist or just a curious beginner, here’s your chance to try out a new and engaging form of direct-drawing printmaking called trace monotyping.
This free opportunity will be offered by TEDxCape Town in an Open/ink event on Thursday 2 July in the East City.
The drawing, scribbled or notated ideas will be posted on Instagram on the night, then will become part of a collaborative whole at a TEDxCapeTown event on 15 and 16 August at the City Hall.
This printmaking initiative is just one of several offerings on the menu of a new night market organised by the Cape Craft + Design Institute (CCDI). The market (launched last month) is geared at the whole family. It forms part of theFirst Thursday diary, when many central and East City businesses in Cape Town stay open till late.
WHAT, WHERE & WHEN: The night market opens at 17h00 and runs until 21h00. corner of Harrington and Barrack Streets, Cape Town 8001. Visitors can look out for the Open/ink station and the TEDxCapeTown logo.

Cities in Motion at The Cape Gallery
Communities often appear to be suspended in a constant state of paradox, caught between a certain poetic nostalgia for what once existed, and an eagerness for developing infrastructure. The particular emphasis on design and progress in recent years has inspired ‘Cities in Motion’, a collection of work reflecting the changing concrete facades that flank our cities and the social energy that these changes inspire.
