Gillian Rosselli has a solo exhibition at THK Gallery Cape Town and also has work in a group exhibition of Zimbabian artists titled Hunyanzvi – Mastery in Shona at the Griesebach Gallery in Zurich. And we are talking to her in Zurich for this Arts Round Up on Fine Music Radio!

Gillian went to UCT Michaelis School of Fine Art, in Cape Town and is originally from Zimbabwe, which explains her inclusion in the group exhibition of Zimbabwe artists taking place at the gallery in Zurich. She is one of 10 contemporary Zimbabwe artists covering sculpture, painting, installation and mixed media. Her work in this exhibition is entitled Unconcious Freedom and explores the interplay between the concious and unconcious. Her work reflects aspects of nature – growth and rebewal. The quality of child birth, with its intense energy and the momentum of welcoming a new life is captured by the vivid red in Hatching.
Unconcious Freedom
Back in Cape Town and at THK Gallery, Episodes of the Whole is a body of work that explores individual consciousness as both part and a product of a greater existential totality. She is perceiving herself as part of the whole – her individual in relation to the whole of existence. And she draws our attention to two of her works as you enter the gallery, titled Hatching and Genesis.
Hatching
Ashraf Jamal writes of her work” ‘After everything is left in pieces,’ this is where Episodes of the Whole begins—not with coherence, but with fragments.” Gillian agrees that this is a good summary of her work.
She would like visitors to the gallery to feel her work and start a dialogue with it and see what’s in it at a personal level.
