Spoegwolf with warming up act Jo Black coming to Kirstenbosch Summer Sunset Concerts on Sunday 23 February 2020 – an awesome double act of Afrikaans artistry.

Kirstenbosch Summer Sunset Concerts in association with Old Mutual will boast a double bill of some of the best in Afrikaans alternative rock music.

  • Jo Black

Famously bearded bar rocker, Jo Black, will make his Kirstenbosch debut by opening the afternoon’s concert. “There’s something special about the vibe, energy of the crowds and view at Kirstenbosch, so I’m really looking forward to finally performing there and sharing a stage with the guys from Spoegwolf again,” said Black.

His 2019 album Voel Jy Die Genade’s title track has already reached over 150 000 views on YouTube and number one iTunes SA. “I poured my heart and soul into this album. I worked incredibly hard on this project and hope that it will inspire those who listen to it, as it inspired me while I was creating it,” said Black. This is sure to be an uplifting performance that will leave you smiling and wanting more.

  • Spoegwolf

Closing the show will be Spoegwolf whose thought-provoking lyrics and rich sound have earned them their status as the face of alternative Afrikaans music and first Afrikaans artist or band to reach the top spot on Apple Music. “It’s always an honour to perform at Kirstenbosch and we’re looking forward to sharing the bill with Jo Black,” said Spoegwolf.

Fans are in for a treat as this performance will take place just days after the release of their highly-anticipated fifth studio album, See – a skillfully crafted concept album about returning to the ocean. “See has some classic Spoegwolf sounds, but also quite a few new ones with Hiram Koopman on Saxophone, a feature with Francois van Coke and Early B as well as some spoken-word poetry in the interludes and intros,” added the band.

Spoegwolf has thrilled and delighted audiences across the globe with their meaningful lyrics, beautiful harmonies and energetic performances over the years. The band has said that “anything can happen” while they’re on stage so Cape Town fans can expect them to bring the same world-class passion and dedication to Kirstenbosch.
