Elements - to Uplift our Spirits as we Move into Spring

On the Arts Round Up, Katherine Hamilton walks us through Elements, the current group exhibition at Hamilton Gallery at The Old Biscuit Mill, which runs through until 20 September, but might in fact be extended.

Listen to the Art Round Up on Fine Music Radio FMR 101.3fm on Fridays at 17h30

Katherine explains that Elements was intended to uplift our spirits after the long cold winter and the changing seasons. Elements refers to the traditional four elements refer Earth, Fire, Air and Water, and was looking for artists which who could reflect this both literally and figuratively, or even abstract works that relate to them through colour and composition and give off a feeling of them. The colours in Gavin Larkin‘s work Mix and Mingle is firery and the title reflects the variety she was looking for in terms of artworks, style, methods and media and to evoke different emotions – some more serious, some more fun. In contrast to Mix and Mingle by Gavin Larkin, there is his far more literal work of trees.

Talking about more literal works, Katherine tells us about artist Greta Mcmahon, whose work she feels is spiritual. Greta is into hiking and meditation and spends time in nature – especially forests and mountain areas – and you feel that reflected in her work.

There are over 10 artists with very different ways of evoking the elements. And the BEST way to confront the Elements is to get to Hamilton Gallery and ENJOY!
