Kaymar Bineshtarigh & Jesse Ede – two solo exhibitions – open at Southern Guild at the V&A Waterfront on Thursday 24 September.
9 Hopkins by Kamyar Bineshtarigh is at once an exploration of gestural mark-making and an engagement with the urban fabric of Salt River, Cape Town. This new series of expansive, mixed-media paintings finds its conceptual origins in the unintentional marks observed on the walls of a panel-beating workshop in Bineshtarigh’s studio complex. The body of work stands as a memorialisation of unconscious mark-making as an indicator of human presence and a mapping of memory and being.

Of Space and Time by Jesse Ede harnesses the monumentality and raw durability of earthly materials such as metal and stone to contemplate the vastness of the universe. Made from bronze, aluminium and Cape heritage stone, Ede’s large-scale sculptural works invite physical engagement and interaction. The artist’s first solo exhibition, Of Space and Time marks the culmination of years of innovative experimentation with open-cast smelting.
