Free entrance to both the showcase and Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden for the whole day on Wednesday 22 May.

The United Nations has proclaimed May 22 The International Day for Biological Diversity (IDB) to increase understanding and awareness of biodiversity issues.

International Biodiversity Day on 22 May 2013 is being celebrated at Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden through a showcase of 100 Years of Biodiversity Science.
Discover how biodiversity science has changed your world!  Go and experience 100 years of biodiversity science in one day through an interactive display area, films, talks and walks.
You are an insider view into this fascinating world, and shown how this science impacts on all our lives, this is an event that will change your perspective.

Speakers during the day-long programme include renowned climate change scientist Prof Guy Midgley; and activities include Bioblitzes, a GIS garden game, and guided walks.  Four biodiversity-related films will be shown in the afternoon programme.
