La Traviata – step into a world of passion, tragedy and sumptuous melody as Opera UCT joins forces with Cape Town Opera in a production of Verdi’s timeless masterpiece.
Follow the ill-fated love story of Violetta, a glamorous courtesan, and Alfredo, the sincere young man who adores her, as they navigate a society where love battles moral judgment and social constraint. As Violetta’s health fades, her choices take on heartbreaking dimensions, underscored by some of opera’s most famous arias and duets.
The production will feature two dynamic casts, each a unique combination of Opera UCT emerging artists and Judith Neilson Young Artists and house solioists from Cape Town Opera. [See details below] They will be joined by the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Opera UCT director, Jeremy Silver.
The beautiful staging and design are the work and vision of theatre director, writer and designer, Marí Borstlap.
Don’t miss the chance to witness this stirring spectacle, where the best of South Africa’s vocal talent meets storytelling magic in Giuseppe Verdi’s La Traviata!
