Aviva Pelham, returns with the highly acclaimed biographical story of her mother, Santa Pelham, poignantly and evocatively related in songs and word.
“Compelling … a captivating and often humorous tale of an ordinary woman
who lived an extraordinary life.” Daily Maverick
“We’ve been so blessed to have traveled with SANTA’S STORY to Johannesburg, Durban, London, Helskini, Hürth, Cologne and New York, and will be taking the show on the road – or to the air – in November, playing in Melbourne and Sydney, ” says diva, Aviva Pelham.
But first, SANTA’S STORY will be playing at Theatre on the Bay for a (very) short season!
Santa Erder Pelham was just 17 years old when she, her father, mother and two brothers fled their home town of Hürth in Germany. After a harrowing journey and tragic loss, Santa finally found her way to a new life on an unknown continent -Africa. This is her story, as relevant today as it has always been.
Interspersed with music and songs in Yiddish, French, Spanish, English and Hebrew, AVIVA delivers a compelling and captivating narrative. She is accompanied by MATTHEW REID on clarinet, saxophone and keyboard; PETRI SALONEN on violin and NICKY JANSEN on keyboard, guitar, accordion and flute.
