Ever thought what it might be like if everyone had their own personal band following them around from birth, playing the soundtrack to their life? Some might have a 3-piece garage set, some a full orchestra, others a mariachi quartet. Dani (Daneel van der Walt) has Leo (Roelof Colyn). Leo is a depressed lion who plays the keys and occasionally offers a “do-whup” or an “oooh-wah” if he’s sober enough to sing. Together, Dani and the Lion present a 65 minute cabaret-styled journey into the mind of a rather charming and somewhat quirky chick, featuring all new work by Daneel herself and a couple of covers that will get you laughing, clapping, sighing and maybe even be-bopping too.
Dani and the Lion returns to Alexander Bar’s Upstairs Theatre after a brief run in June to test the waters where it grabbed rave audience feedback.

The Very Best of Naked Girls Reading Cape Town
Alexander brings you a scintillating round-up of popular readings selected from all the previous Naked Girls Reading events to date! In the past year and a half we’ve delighted you with tales of love, horror, wisdom and celebration and can’t wait to share our favourite picks of the bunch.
This event is being held in conjunction with The Grand Exhibition, International Burlesque Benefit and proceeds will be donated to Rape Crisis.
What is Naked Girls Reading?
Naked Girls Reading is a nude literary salon that takes place in twenty cities around the world and on five different continents. At each event, a small cast of beautiful ladies remove their clothing (yes, all of it) and read personal selections to an adoring audience. It is entertaining, magical, often funny, sometimes heart-wrenching and really very sexy.
The Cape Town chapter of this international event has been described as a “performance art sensation” on eTV Primetime News and has been featured in The Sunday Times, as well as recommended by Elle magazine’s online gig guide and CapeTownMagazine.com.
