From the satirical news show Late Nite News (LNN) being nominated for an Emmy to Trevor Noah joining The Daily Show, SA comedy has more reason to celebrate, reports Katlego Mkhwanazi, Sapa-AP.
The Late Nite News (LNN) with Loyiso Gola team can pat itself on the back for bagging a International Emmy Award nomination again. This follows its 2013 nomination. The eNCA’s weekly satirical news show is nominated in the best comedy category with international shows such as Please Like Me (Australia), The Mayor’s Wife (Brazil) and Wat als 2? (Belgium).
The International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences announced on Monday a total of 40 nominees from 19 countries who will be competing in 10 categories for International Emmys.
Last year LNN, which launched in 2010, didn’t get the nod but are hoping to walk away with the award at the black-tie ceremony that will be held in November 24 in New York City. The show’s anchor, Gola, tweeted on Monday night: “This Emmy nomination dedicated to those whose fought for freedom of speech in South Africa”.
Trevor Noah
Comedian Trevor Noah also has a reason to celebrate. He will be joining the Comedy Central Emmy award-winning satirical news show The Daily Show with Jon Stewart cast from December. Noah is no stranger to US audiences.
