Marcus Wyatt’s 5th solo album launch

One Life in the Sun’ is Marcus Wyatt’s 5th solo album , and was recorded in 2012 during a residency in Basel, Switzerland. Besides Wyatt, the quartet comprises three of Switzerland’s finest jazz musicians – Domenic Landolf (tenor sax/bass clarinet), Baenz Oester (upright bass) and Dominic Igli (drums).

All three Swiss players have collaborated with South African musicians before , and they have an innate understanding and sensibility towards the ‘South African’ or broader ‘African’ sound. The group truly allow Wyatt’s compositions to sing, while always allowing the music breathing space and sensitivity . This album is the most open and sparse to date, with the absence of piano notable, but not felt – acoustic South African jazz in the true tradition: joyful, poignant and full of the soul and spirit of one life lived in the sun!

“In 2006, Marcus Wyatt released “Language12“, an album that I’ve quipped has been my favourite SA jazz album of the year ever since. Now he launches a new album composed in Sophiatown and recorded in Switzerland, in Johannesburg (19 April) and Cape Town (24 April)”,  writes Evan Milton in his blog.
