Talk and Walkabout on 4 & 6 April

Meet King Houndekpinkou and Justine Mahoney at a talk and a walkabout that takes place at Southern Guild on 4 & 6 April respectively.

The talk is with Southern Guild’s  current artist-in-residence, King Houndekpinkou.

Forming part of First Thursday’s programming, current artist-in-residence King Houndekpinkou will give an artist talk detailing his ceramic practise and wide-ranging conceptual interests. The Franco-Beninese ceramist has been at the GUILD Residency for the past five weeks, working toward a focused body of clay work to be shown in the latter half of 2024. The talk will offer insight into the making of Houndekpinkou’s visual language, exploring his transnational influences and the technical intricacies of his practice.

Join Justine Mahoney for a walkabout exploring her current solo exhibition, VIGIL Meet King Houndekpinkou & Justine Mahoney

Justine Mahoney will be in conversation with Lindokuhle Nkosi for a walkabout of the artist’s current solo exhibition, VIGIL. The solo comprises 12 figurative sculptures and a series of corresponding enamel-on-fabric paintings, reimagining Carl Jung’s archetypes. Touching on themes of motherhood, self-enquiry, sacred rage and the rise of the divine feminine, Mahoney will expand on the complex conceptual and tangible making of the immense body of work.
