The Cape Heritage Museum and the William Fehr Collection are the focus of this week’s Sanlam Arts Round Up.Cape Heritage Museum

At the Cape Heritage Museum you will discover the captivating stories of diverse individuals and communities that have shaped South African history. The Museum is driven by Igshaan Higgins, who is a passionate collector that results in a showcase that reflects on the arts, history, culture and rich heritage of  Cape Muslims, their ancestors and indigenous communities. The aim is  challenge preconceptions, provoke thought and foster unity.

You are invited to celebrate a shared history at the Cape – and it’s a very intense experience. So, allow yourself time to immerse yourself in this special space and find out what it’s all about!

The William Fehr Collection is enhanced by what has been called ‘Rethinking the William Fehr Collection” to provide a different perspective. The rehanging is to re-examine South Africa’s past in terms of what has been portrayed and what has been omitted. The exhibition is also in a vey special space – the Secunde’s (Deputy Govenor General) House, which gives it a special ambience.

A special thanks to Curator Esther Esmayol for  rethinking the collection and showing it in this very special space. (The painting on exhibition, is taken from the boat in which she arrived at the Cape of Good Hope.)
