Sarah Chang, one of the world’s most celebrated and captivating violinists, makes music and her Cape Town debut with the Cape Philharmonic Orchestra in Sibelius’s demanding Violin Concerto on Sunday, 9 June, in the Artscape Opera House at 8pm.
On the podium will be Theodor Kuchar, who is collaborating with Chang for the 11th time in this performance. The orchestra will also perform Rossini’s l’Italiana in Algeri overture, the Symphony no 4 in A, “Italian”, by Mendelssohn, and Finlandia, also by Sibelius.
“It’s not often that a star of this calibre comes to South Africa, and we are delighted to present her first. It’s an opportunity not to be missed, for the considerably gifted Chang is considered to be one of the best there is,” notes Louis Heyneman, CEO of the Cape Philharmonic .
Chang, who at 32 has been an international star for two decades, made her debut at the age of eight with the New York Philharmonic. Since then, she has demonstrated her technical virtuosity and musical insight all over the world in performances with the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Berlin Philharmonic, the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra and the London Symphony Orchestra and more. She has also collaborated with the most revered conductors of our time, from Sir Simon Rattle to Valery Gergiev.
