The concert will be the Afro-fusion icon’s first performance in the Mother City in over five years, and will include a semi-acoustic or ‘unplugged’ segment, before the Stimela veteran is joined on stage by his full band.
The show will be opened with a set by Lesotho-born songstress Maleh, making her debut Cape Town appearance at City Hall Sessions.
Maleh broke onto the scene when she featured in dancefloor collaborations produced by Black Coffee and DJ Kent, after which she embarked on a solo career. She performs at City Hall with a five-piece band.
Both of the featured artists were acknowledged at last month’s 19th annual MTN South African Music Awards (SAMAs): Ray Chikapa Phiri was honoured with a Lifetime Achiever Award, whilst the relative newcomer Maleh won the “Best African Adult Album” category for her solo album “Step Child”.
City Hall Sessions is a presented by Creative Cape Town, a project of the Cape Town Partnership. The series is supported by the National Lottery Development Trust Fund, with assistance from the City of Cape Town. The show is produced by Making Music Productions.
