Pianist and bandleader Malcolm Braff is based in Europe but has roots in the global South.
Born in Rio de Janeiro to missionary parents and raised in Cape Verde, Senegal and Switzerland, he combines technical precision with African roots, gospel influences and the spiritual itself. Expect chamber jazz layered with daring improvisations and ecstatic jazz-funk when Braff’s trio performs alongside local hotshots Shane Cooper (double bass) and Kesivan Naidoo (drums). The Swiss JazzWerkstatt Quartet and pianist and composer Kyle Shepherd also make an appearance. Expect great music!
