Music: Sizzling hot sounds

Everything about Colombian band Bomba Estereo is hot.

Vocalist Liliana Saumet is best described as M.I.A. meets Juliette Lewis meets Die Antwoord’s Yolandi. The rest of the Bogotá-based outfit are equally sizzling. Their music mashes cumbia with dub, Afro-Colombian champeta, Peruvian chicha, dancehall and reggaeton to create an electro-tropicalia sound that promises to burn the roof down. Thanks to the Firefest Route, a new crosscultural music festival network, Capetonians will get to feel their heat along with the fire-starting sounds of Mexican duo Sonidero Mandril, Congolese-American electronic outfit Kongo Elektro and toby2shoes.
