Neighbourfood Winter Campaign at V&A Waterfront

by | Jun 30, 2023 | Food & Beverage, News | 0 comments

Highlighting the V&A’s food ecosystem

Neighbourfood Winter Campaign returns to the V&A Waterfront and it aims to be bigger and better this year and sees the return of the monthly Friday Night Feasts.

The V&A Neighbourfood, now in its second year, is a multifaceted food initiative aimed at highlighting the V&A’s food ecosystem, collaboration with social partners and culinary offerings including its restaurant’s winter specials. The initiative also speaks to the Waterfront’s holistic approach to food, where the impact of food is measured in communities created, memories made and over 6 000 livelihoods supported.

Tinyiko Mageza, Executive Head of Marketing, V&A Waterfront, said that Neighbourfood aims to develop a sustainable, locally-based, authentic and culturally diverse food ecosystem that supports healthy food lifestyles and livelihoods.

“Neighbourfood is our way of saying ‘come and let us break bread together’. Communal eating offers a sense of belonging, increases social bonding and feelings of wellbeing. It also sparks joy, enhances our sense of contentedness and embeds us within a community. The platform also serves as a table for important food conversations and this is reflected in themes and activations we have planned,” says Mageza.

About the V&A Waterfront Food Ecosystem

More than 26.7% of the gross lettable area (GLA) of the V&A Waterfront is dedicated to food and food-related products (excl. grocers). This is more than double that of most regional shopping centres.

Through its shared value ecosystem strategy, the Waterfront has implicitly and explicitly made a commitment to supporting the local, seasonal, and sustainable food value chain. Its commitment, through SOLVE@Waterfront, is to amplify this work of supporting aligned ethics and values across the entire chain as it manifests in food outlets from production to waste management.

Makers Landing at the Cape Town Cruise Terminal is home to a Kitchen Incubator, where the industry comes together with innovators to foster new businesses. It is also home to a shared industrial kitchen space, where innovators can test products on scale. The aim is to support entrepreneurs and SMMEs and make a real difference, one plate at a time.
