New South African One-Stop-Shop for Design

“South Africa’s first permanent one-stop-shop for local fashion, jewellery, décor, furniture, stationery and design opens today in the shopping hot-spot of Bree Street, Cape Town,” is the brave claim of SAM.

Opening simultaneously online and on street, SAM – short for South African Market – is designed to appeal to locals and tourists alike, as a place to get  gifts – for themselves and their friends – from local designers.

SAM is situated on Bree Street, accessible up a beautiful raw-brick ramp from street level. The grand loft space provides plenty of opportunity to showcase the full spectrum of local design, from cool, edgy fashion collections from the likes of Selfi, Shanna, JaneSews and Nicola West, through to the stationery and illustrations of Lauren Fowler, Soet, and Seven Swans, the furniture of Xandre Kriel, Jakob Basson and Piers Mansfield, home ware from Handmade By Me, EnMasse, and Love Milo and the jewellery from Oh Dear Megan, A Ring To It and Famke, amongst many others.

SAM will also offer men’s wear from designers such as Simpleman and Bastion, kids wear from Petit Pois, mohair blankets from Hinterland and Trees for Tourism with indigenous trees – as well as plenty of décor and jewellery options to delight and intrigue both sexes.

Berlinda White, co-founder of SAM: “We think that South African design is incredibly scattered. There is so much creativity and design work, but you have to go to several different stores just to get a taste of it all. With SAM we pull it all together andoffer all the best fashion, jewellery, décor and furniture, all in one place.”
Business partner, Naomi Bossert: “We want people to think of SAM when they need to buy gifts. We are structuring our whole business around this idea – staying open later, for those last minute gifts and everything available online for the gifts you want to have
delivered elsewhere.”

SAM online store will be live online
