NEXT! THANK YOU.. is a tongue-in-cheek musical revue by singer Debby Jamieson, with Matthew Reid on sax & keys – for those who love musical theatre – and those who love to hate it! .
Debby takes the audience on a rollercoaster ride of a superstar wannabe from the audition room, through the backstage door and into the spotlight. And it’s happening at the Wave Theatre in Cape Town.
NEXT! THANK YOU…is about the painful process of trying to land a spot in a musical in a big city such as London or New York (while doing soulless temporary jobs on the side), the ultimate thrill of being chosen, and finally being in the spotlight to sing and dance one’s favourite songs onstage in front of an audience.
Debby Jamieson is a dancer, actress, singer & comedienne. She did a PG Diploma in Acting & Musical Theatre at The Royal Central School of Speech & Drama in London. Productions include: “Into the Woods,” “To Die For,” “Hello Goodbye,” “Hansel & Gretel,” “Little Red Riding Hood,” “Kyknet Fiestas” (Delores from Kalahari), “Debby Does,” “A Taste of Bette Midler” ”Rockville” (Artscape) and Stand-up comedy circuit. She collaborated with Matthew Reid last year in the production “Jazz and All That”.
Matthew Reid is a clarinetist, saxophonist and pianist. He studied clarinet performance at UCT and Royal College of Music.
He was the musical director for Cape Town’s popular annual Yiddish Song Festival in the Baxter Theatre for eleven consecutive years, and founded Playing with Fire in the year 2000, a business which provides musicians for functions. He runs a Balkan band, a Klezmer Gypsy band, a French quartet and a jazz trio. A recitalist and free-lance musician, he has arranged and directed the music for several shows at festivals in the country.
Matthew arranged the music and played in Aviva Pelham’s production of Santa’s Story, which has given performances all over the world. He runs the Christ Church Concerts series in Constantia, which he started seven years ago, providing platforms for local and visiting musicians at monthly concerts.
See you at The Wave Theatre and ENJOY!
