The Norval 5th Birthday Weekend includes the opening of a new exhibition on Saturday 22 and Family Festivities on Sunday 23 April as well. And Uvile Kweyama tells us more.

Uvile tells us of the BIG weekend we can look forward to – the opening of The Kilbourn Collection followed by the festive family day celebrations on Sunday.
The Kilbourne Collection is part of the Collector’s Focus series of exhibitions staged by the Norval Foundation. Frank Kilbourn, an entrepreneur and Chairperson of Strauss & Co., and Lizelle, his wife, a property lawyer and author, have been art collectors for nearly forty years. They have together created a sizable collection of significant Historic, Modern and Contemporary works. The selection shown here focuses on artists of a younger generation that are exploring the contemporary moment and an innovative use of materials, pertinent to this time.
The exhibition opens on Saturday 22 with a free walkabout by Karel Nel at 11:00.
On Sunday it’s family day with loads of festive fun for the kids! For more info about what’s lined up, please check 5TH YEAR BIRTHDAY PARTY at Norval!
Other shows that Uvile tells us about is the Maggie Loubser – Portraits & Landscapes exhibition. This covers a specific timeperiod when she went to Europe and her return to South Africa.
The other exhibition currently on view is the Berni Searle Retrospective – Having but little gold. The work covers the period 1998 through to the commissioned work in the atrium at Norval Foundation.
Asked to identify a highlight of the past 5-years, Uvile had no hesitation in identifying the opening of the Learning Centre to bring children to the Norval Foundation. Their Educational Programme is to be highly commended!
LOTS to see and do this Norval 5th Birthday Weekend, and we look forward to what’s in store for us in the future. Happy birthday to the Norval Foundation!
