A visit to the new Norval exhibitions is definitely on the what to do in Cape Town list!
In the past month Norval Foundation has seen the opening of our two new exhibitions, The Reunion: Georgina Gratrix and Mixed Company. They make up the 5th and 6th exhibitions they have put on since their reopening in September 2020.
2 New Norval Exhibitions
The Reunion: Georgina Gratrix
Georgina Gratrix is known for paintings that feature expressive, impasto brushwork and humorous yet uncomfortable distortions of figures, objects and landscapes filtered through a colour saturated aesthetic. Bringing together 27 major artworks, completed between 2011 and 2020, The Reunion draws upon the holdings of the Homestead Collection, based at Norval Foundation, as well as loans from private lenders.
Artist Talk
Join Norval n 3 April for the launch of two Georgina Gratrix catalogues. The day will begin with an intimate walkabout with Georgina Gratrix, followed by a talk with Norval Foundation Chief Curator, Owen Martin. The talk is limited to 30 people, so booking is essential.
Mixed Company
Mixed Company is a thematic group exhibition exploring the act of gathering, pictured through the eyes of eleven modern and contemporary artists from southern Africa. Spanning from 1941 — with Gerard Sekoto’s painting titled Workers on a Saturday — to 2020, the exhibition presents a selection of situations in which people meet with one another. The act of social gathering has gained in importance due its relative absence as a result of the pandemic.
