Open Design opens the lid on design

For those taking part in Open Design Cape Town, be it by hosting an event or attending the events, there is one message that stands above all others: DESIGN IS FOR SHARING.

And this is the message Open Design wants to share with the public, both next month, through the year and for future editions of the festival.

To do this, design studio Infestation, have put together a simple, but effective marketing campaign to drive home the message of “design is for sharing” through a series of visuals that symbolize a wide range of everyday items that would be used to open another object or generate an opening effect.

In order to keep with the tight deadlines and budgets, the campaign focuses primarily on Open Design Cape Town’s digital platforms in an effort to create brand awareness and understanding by driving people to the website, where they will be better equipped to not only read about the festival, but also how to take part over the ten days.

The focus on social networks ties in with Open Design’s philosophy of sharing with the hope that people will engage with Open Design by sharing the visuals far and wide and spreading the word of “Design is for Sharing”. At the event, individuals attending will be able to continue sharing their experiences with visuals placed all around Cape Town City Hall allowing people to take pictures of where they are and what they are doing and sharing this with their networks.

“We really just want people to go crazy and pass it on to their friends and their friends of friends, and join us for the event and engage with design,” says Nix Harwood, brand designer behind Open Design Cape Town at Infestation. “The more people we can reach with our message, the greater chance we have of demystifying design and showing people how integral design is to everyday life.”
