Open Streets invite you to join Street Indaba on 19 September for a day of embracing your inner kid to critically examine how we can create a child-friendly city at the street level. Your participation will be vital to introduce concrete ideas and reflect together on the reality of streets in and around Cape Town.

Please come and join the fun!

First Street Indaba

In collaboration with Childsafe, Development Action Group, Gauteng City-Region Observatory, the Sustainable Livelihoods Foundation and WesternCape on Wellness (WoW!), Open Streets is hosting its first Street Indaba. The programme will focus on how children experience streets, highlight local initiatives that place “children at the centre”, and what needs to change to make streets safer, more welcoming and easier to navigate in an inclusive and sustainable city.

The keynote speaker is Kirti Zala from Ahmedabad, India, who leads aProCh – a community-based children’s advocacy initiative working to make cities child-friendly.

The day will include dialogue, games, lunch, a world cafe session to showcase local initiatives, and prizes for those who really get into the youthful spirit.

You will also have an opportunity to see the real issues in action, as we walk to a nearby primary school, retracing the steps of children along the main thoroughfare in Langa.

WHEN: 19 September 2018  I  08h30 to 16h00
WHERE: Guga S’thebe, Washington St, Langa, Cape Town, 7455
