The Naval Museum is a leading maritime museum which vividly portrays the rich and varied history of our South African Navy. The museum is housed in two historic buildings, the Dutch Storehouse (1743) and Royal Navy Mast House (1814). Allow enough time to learn about the First World War and the tragic loss of the SS Mendi, the South African Naval Forces during the Second World War. The gunnery display, cannon, torpedoes, missiles and a maritime helicopter shows the technological developments of the Navy through the years. The functions and purpose of the Navy is well illustrated in the Diving-, Mine Counter-measure-, Marine and Communication and Hydrographic Survey and Printing displays. The important transitional events of 1994 is illustrated in the Transformation display and the official gallery of the Chiefs of the Navy exhibition.
