Pops Mohamed & Olufemi in concert

Apart from being a musician of note with an international reputation, Pops Mohamed is a long-term friend of the San peoples of southern Africa. Multiple musical encounters, as well as recordings such as Sanscapes (MELT 2000. with the !Gubi Family) are there to attest to this friendship.

With trumpetist Olufemi he has taken it upon himself to keep traditional sounds alive. Playing instruments like the mbqanga, kwela and marabi Pops & Olufemi set out to take audiences on a sound journey in the leafy gallery space where “Planting Seeds to Hunt the Wind” was launched last month.

The concert is produced in partnership with the Darling Music Experience (DME), which has become a much loved annual event on the West Coast cultural calendar.
