The Sanlam Arts Round Up starts with a discussion about the aim and focus of Past Disquiet. – a documentary and archival exhibition The aim being to tell the stories of four different collections and look at this trans national network of political narratives relating to Chili, Nicaragua, Palestine and apartheid South Africa. This is a very immersive exhibition.
This is a very different exhibition as its an exhibition of a hundred and one stories, engaging with artist collectives and gathering their responses to the political situations confronting them. In this edition of Past Disquiet, the largest to date, they were able to research two of the largest artist associations in the anti-apartheid struggle.
You will discover different voices, creating an authentic story, that fits in with Zeitz MOCAA’s policy of looking to Africa and the diaspora to represent the African continent.
Be prepared to spend time to come to grips with the Past Diisquiet and how it relates to the accompanying exhibition Seismography of Struggle: Towards a Global History of Critical and Cultural Journals. The exhibitions explore archival, exhibition, and publishing histories related to resistance, struggle, and solidarity. They bring together both storytelling and an immersive viewing experiences
