Robben Island Museum (RIM) is partaking in the SA Tourism’s “Gimme Summer that Sho’t Left!” campaign that is targeted at the domestic travel market. RIM is offering a complimentary ticket for one child under 18, with every adult buying a ticket for the 5 pm sunset tour.
This is in line with RIM being alive to the domestic tourism market’s demand for value added leisure.
“As South Africans from the rest of the country prepare to travel to Cape Town, we are cognisant of limited disposable income and a preference for holiday activities that offer value for money. To this end, and in pursuit of our commitment to make RIM more accessible to locals, it allows us the opportunity to give more people access to an awe-inspiring visit to this iconic World Heritage Site, that prioritises a connection with our public and cultural heritage,” said Siphuxolo Mazwi, RIM Senior Manager: Marketing and Tourism.
The special, which runs from 15 December 2022 to 15 January 2023, is applicable from Monday to Sunday, on the 5 pm sunset tour only.
A visit to Robben Island is far beyond just seeing the Maximum Security Prison. From the time visitors depart at the Nelson Mandela Gateway to Robben Island, they are taken on an experiential journey back in time where the stories of banishment, exile, punishment, sacrifice and victories hard won, come to life at the hands of expert tour guides and former political prisoners who authentically narrate their experiences, not from manuscripts and archives, but etched into their memories over the many brutal and heart-warming years spent on the island.
Cape Town is renowned for breath-taking sunsets, and what better way to enjoy the Atlantic Seaboard sunset, than setting sail from Robben Island, to the V&A Waterfront, where a smorgasbord of dining and entertainment opportunities await.
“A trip to Robben Island Museum is an enriching, educational, fun and thought-provoking experience that not only ticks the box for a lesson in history and heritage, but also exposes visitors to world-class marine conservation,” said Mazwi.
