Packed Programme for Museum Saturday

Rupert Museum invites you to Museum Saturday, their monthly last Saturday programmes, filled with exciting options including workshops and treasure hunts to entice the family!

Planted in Thread, one of the workshops on offer, ties in with the recently opened exhibition in Gallery 3; DiVERSiTY – Fibre Art a group exhibition, which is a must see. The artworks featured gives one insight to an array of textile and techniques, how they are used, combined, and explored creatively and applied with skill. PLANTED IN THREAD with artists Elizabeth Vels & Cathy Stanley (Workshop for 16+ years)

Elizabeth Vels is a multi-media artist who has been creating since her mid 30s. Her latest retrospective exhibition ‘A Life in Making’ was showcased at 6 Spin Street Gallery, Cape Town during July. The 85year old artist’s skill, application and appreciation for plant material was evident and inspirational in this exhibition.

Celebrating Garden Month, taking inspiration from nature with its array of plants and flora, come create your own textured weaving on a small loom. The workshop will introduce a vocabulary of weaving processes, various textures, shapes, different materials and the warping of your loom – yours to keep and use during the workshop.

The kit contains: Loom, a needle, and threads
All weaving material will be available and supplied during the workshop. Loads of threads and torn fabrics – a full colour palette and wondrous textures awaits you.

Preserving the Garden with food artist Zayaan Khan (Workshop for 16+ years)
11:00 – 14:00 R150 pp
With the garden as focus, how do we capture and use the produce on offer – the options are endless, especially with food artist and researcher Zayaan Khan, you will learn about the tricks to preserve the [your] garden. The workshop will explore preservation techniques and recipes for the home and kitchen, all by using kitchen waste. While learning the how to, you will make your own SAFE cleaners and fresheners, with tips on stocks and powders for the pantry.

The workshop will focus on demonstrations, recipes, easy methods with no fancy equipment, and examples to smell and taste. All material, garden offerings, a spray bottle and atomiser will be provided.

To celebrate Garden Month, explore our beautiful garden, which has lots of indigenous and water-wise plants to keep our local insects, animals and planet happy!
Follow the clues to find a surprise at each stop along the way. At the final stop, paint & create your very own bird feeder to brighten up your garden.
