It’s Museum Saturday on 28 October and there’s lots happening at the Rupert Museum, preceded by two gardening events as part of Gardening October.
Listen to the Sanlam Arts Round Up on Fine Music Radio FMR 101.3fm every Friday at 17h30
October is Gardening Month at the Rupert Museum and there are two events with this focus.
All About Aloes by John is a workshop with the Museum’s gardener John Skippers that includes a 30 minute walk about of the garden – so be prepared with sunscreen and sunhat. This is on 24 October 10 – 12:30 at a cost of R180.
Waterwise planting with Apiwe is a workshop with the Museum’s gardener Apiwe Mbula, which focuses on being water-wise. The workshop incudes a painting activity to decorate the pot you will use to take home an indigenous plant. This is on 25 October 10 – 12:30 at a cost of R180.
Museum Saturday on the 28th includes
- Kids Workshop and Lucky Draw
- Kombucha Tasting with CultureLab, which is for free and no bookings required. It’s non-alcoholic so the kids can try it too. It’s a blend based on green tea.
- Bee-tiful is another kids activity that takes you into the garden and focuses on pollination. There are times slots for these adventures between 10:00 and 15:00.
- Natural Soap Workshop focuses on using natural ingredients. This is fully booked, but maybe it’s worth checking for a cancellation or no-show?
And here are two other Museum Saturday not included in the podcast.

Ending Garden Month celebrations on a high note, it is time to use the wonderful offerings found in nature and create your own collection of unique Botanical Monoprints. Participants will be introduced to a few printing techniques using physical plant specimens and textures to create one-of-a-kind artworks.
10:45 am – 2:30 in the MakerStudio at a cost of ZAR150.00. PHONE ahead to check if space is available.
And the other reason you are going to the Rupert Museum, is to see what’s on exhibition. Casted is highlighted – a curated exhibition of mid-20th century sculpture from a wonderful collection. The Italian sculptures might challenge the viewer, but you will certainly want to engage. ( See MapMyWay)
