Sanlam Arts Round Up – Year End Highlights

by | Dec 31, 2021 | Arts & Culture, News | 0 comments

The Sanlam Arts Round Up on the last day of 2021 is a good time to note some highlights of this past year, as we look forward to a creative 2022.

Iziko SA National Gallery celebrated its 150th year!
The origins date back to 1871 when Thomas Butterworth Bayley bequeathed 45 paintings and money for the establishment of a public art gallery in Cape Town
Between Dreams and Realities – A History of the SANG 1871 – 2017 by Marilyn Martin is an exceptional read recording and contextualising the role of this institution.

Montebello Design Centre is about to turn 30
Lots of good reasons to visit the centre, including the new TREE WALK.

This year Southern Guild clinched the Best of Show Award for best gallery presentation at Design Miami 2021!
Their current solo exhibition by Conrad Hicks is titled Cu – the chemical symbol for his chosen medium, copper.

The Cape Gallery is ending the year with an exhibition of the works of Tania Babb and David Kuijers that have a wonderful sense of joy and wicked humour.

Norval Foundation and Boschendal recently announced an historic-artistic collaboration – visitors to Boschendal will be welcomed by a contemporary collection of art from Norval Foundation that contrasts with the Manor House’s rich history, providing a nuanced experience for art lovers.

The Sanlam Arts Round Up is brought to you every Friday, at 15h45, on Drive Time on Fine Music Radio. Next Friday, 7 January 2022, the focus will be on the Life of  Ali Bacher Exhibition  at the SA Jewish Museum when we speak to Gavin Morris, Museum Director.
