The Social Impact Arts Prize 2022 ‘Conversations X Artists’ Exhibition, reflects how artists engage with a topic such as Climate Change, perceived as abstract, distant, and complex without despair, dread or hopelessness.
Is there a place for artists and their aesthetic practices to engage, reflect or imagine a better way to live together in the world? The answer was an emphatic ‘yes’, if you view the ideas in the second cycle of the Rupert Museum’s Social Impact Arts Prize:
- Artists, designers, architects, writers, poets, psychologists, gardeners, and beekeepers.
- Rivers, rain and clean water. Forests, foraging, speaking with trees and building pollinator pathways.
- Photosynthesis, photography and recording ghost stories of long-gone fauna and flora.
These are just some of the themes and shapes of the artistic responses and seen in the work on exhibition.
Narrating the Landscape at the Rupert Museum was the first event of the Investec Cape Town Art Fair Week
The Social Impact Arts Prize 2022 Exhibition – runs until 28 February 2023 at the Rupert Museum in Stellenbosch and on Monday 13 February, Narrating the Landscape was held to tie in with the Investec Cape Town Art Fair.
Artist and musician Garth Erasmus took visitors through the museum, playing traditional musical instruments. This was preceded by an introduction by Hanneli Rupert about how an important focus for the museum is to reach out to the community. Curator Roelof van Wyk then focused on some of the Social Impact Arts Prize projects and their impact on comunities.
Do get to see the exhibition, and engage with the work, before it closes on 28 February 2023.
