Claire Lowden’s solo exhibition titled From Africa With Love opens at The Studio Art Gallery on Friday 18 October at 6 pm.
“I’m celebrating my African experience with an amalgamation of oil paintings, sculptures and ceramic art.“ – Claire Lowden.
In 2014, Claire held her first solo exhibition titled ‘The Cape Dutch Connection’ at The Studio Art Gallery, then situated in Kalk Bay. Claire’s second solo exhibition titled ‘From Africa with Love,’ will also be held at The Studio Art Gallery.
This body of work is inspired by the colours and ‘energy’ of the African landscape, its flora, fauna and people. Claire’s paintings have captured the intricate convolutions of Echevaria succulents, the strength and character of African women and the Namibian and Zambian landscape. Her palette is bold and colourful. Her smoke and sawdust fired ceramic pots reference indigenous trees and fauna and her ceramic sculptures have a hand-painted finish that reveals the essence of the subject.
Claire says, “For this exhibition I have created paintings and ceramics that reflect some of the abundance that Africa provides and the visual beauty that surrounds us. My intent is to evoke a sense of joy and appreciation
