About light, beauty, colour and the joy of flowers

Suspended Exposure by Jozelle McLea at DAOR Contemporary opens Thursday 2 November 2023 at 5PM at the Port of Cape Town and here are the reasons you would want to be there!

Suspended Exposure is about light, beauty, colour and the joy of flowers. Jozelle McLea’s floral abstracts are inspired by the beauty of flora and the way light plays off their blossoms.

Portraying light in painting is the long-standing tradition wherein artists capture a fleeting moment of beauty, like the memento mori of the Dutch Golden Age. McLea’s abstracts reflect an imperfect rendering and springtime explosion of floral beauty.
Jozelle’s palette and unexpected colours encourage the eye to wander through her work as one would through a field of flowers in spring, inviting the viewer to get lost in the layers and textures. Her paintings reflect the happiness that she feels in relation to the subject matter, that light and beauty is not just the visible, but the invisible joyful innate connection between humans and nature.
