Continuing this Creative Exchange series by CCDI, this talk aims to expose the ever-increasing role of design in our lives.
People encounter design in many visible and invisible ways, in every part of their everyday life.
From the packaging we use, to network systems, and from our breakfast cereal to the messages we read – design is all around us. This talk will explore elements of design often overlooked in our modern lives, and the sometime devastating impact these have on our social world and environment.
Vikki du Preez will introduce the shift from product focused design, to that of holistic services and systems, as well as issues surrounding sustainability, accessibility and design for social innovation.
Vikki du Preez is a design theory and history lecturer at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology, focusing on design evolution and theories that influence modern design practice. She has a Masters in Design, a Post Graduate Diploma in Higher Education and Training, has collaborated on two design textbooks and has presented at numerous design and education conferences. Her interest in the user experience and service design fields, has resulted in a number of international research projects and she is currently completing her doctorate within this field.
