Telling our story @ The Cape Gallery

Telling our story opens on Thursday, 3 July 2014 at 5.30pm at The Cape Gallery in conjunction with popular First Thursdays.

Telling our story is a selection of work by eighteen local artists. The exhibition essentially allows the viewer to become a spectator to the lives of ordinary people, providing intimate insight into their hopes, aspirations and personal challenges, while exhibiting a sense of unity and community.

The celebration of culture in Velile Soha’s vibrant musician mono prints contrasts the cultural and social struggles in Robert Siwangaza’s ‘We shall overcome’ and Xolile Mtakatya’s ‘Pennies from heaven… II’, while the nodal areas in Lindile Magunya’s local township scenes offset the unobtrusive, pensive moments in Boyce Magandela’s ‘From home to work I & II’ and Mandla Vanyaza’s ‘Mat weaver’.

Telling our story reveals the empathy of a nation through stories told by ordinary people leading ordinary lives.
