The Dance of Life, a collection of sculptures and drawings by Maureen Quin opens on Sunday, 8th November 2015 at 4:30 p.m. at The Cape Gallery.
Following the successful tour of her Retrospective in 2014, internationally acclaimed sculptor, Maureen Quin, is exhibiting her bronze sculptures at the Cape Gallery.
The exhibition, titled “The Dance of Life”, is a collection of sculptures and drawings celebrating the elegant movement of the dancer’s body and the joy of dance.
The exhibition features the limited edition collector’s book documenting Maureen Quin’s professional career and a new sculpture, titled ‘In the beginning’. Emerging from “The Dance of Life”, the piece clearly shows Maureen Quin further exploring the abstract expressive mould.
Maureen Quin writes of her work:
“Sculpture is my passion. It’s an extension of myself, reflecting my thoughts, my loves, hates joys and fears.
Each sculpture is an exciting journey. Starting with a vague concept, sketching it to achieve a visual form, building the armature, fleshing it out and having it cast in bronze are the elements which ultimately are to me the most rewarding and satisfying. In the process I use my talents, experience and my gut feelings to guide me until I’m satisfied within myself that the sculptural form I’ve created moves in space and is in harmony with my vision.”
