The Kooks come to Cape Town for FREE

On Saturday 20 April, acclaimed English indie rock band, The Kooks, are performing in Cape Town… and it’s 100% FREE.

Wringley’s 5 Gum are to thank for bringing the act to South Africa, and offering this free concert. The catch? Tickets had to be won through a 5 Gum lottery on Facebook. Winners were chosen at random and e-mailed details to claim their ticket online. Each “golden ticket” admits two people and includes bus transportation to the secret venue.

This is not the first time 5 Gum have pulled a stunt like this; in fact, it’s what they’ve become known for. Last year they brought over Two Door Cinema Club in exactly the same fashion and it was a major success.

All tickets have now been released and luckily, I got my golden ticket this time around. But social media platforms are buzzing with die-hard Kooks fans who did not share this lucky fate. People are either scrambling to be chosen as “plus 1’s” or attempting to buy tickets on the secondary market from winners looking to make an easy penny (which is not condoned by 5 Gum).

Regardless, this is definitely the event of the weekend and promises to be an awesome concert, where everyone in the audience feels like a winner!
