10th Fine Music Radio Take Note Concert

The Little Giants, featuring singer Anathi Mobo, will be the next attraction at the 10th Fine Music Radio Take Note concert at Guga S’thebe on Sunday 28th January at 3pm.

The Little Giants was stablished in 1999 by local jazz icons, Ezra Ngcukana and George Werner.

This group’s repertoire of African standards, jazz standards, fusion and original material has wowed the crowds wherever they have played. The combination of traditional rhythms and a solid brass section has provided this group with a biggish band sound that is not often found in community projects of this nature.

Anathi Mobo

Anathi Mobo is a vocalist based in Cape Town, South Africa. She was raised in non-musical home with only her brother, Thabo Mobo having the same inkling for music as she did – him playing bass guitar. At age 11 until the end of her primary school years Anathi played the recorder for the schools orchestra and only began formally singing when she began high school in 2012.

Anathi formed part of the Groote Schuur high school vocal ensemble lead by Lee- anne Fortuin, with the ensemble winning the FACETS competition held at San Souci Girls High School in 2015 – the ensemble also made an appearance on the Expresso morning show in 2016.

At age 15 Anathi joined with 2 other vocalists as part of the Groote Schuur high school Jazz band and later became the lead vocalist of that band when she was 17, performing at many different venues in and around Cape Town – this particular year was also the year that she was chosen as the lead vocalist for theNational schools B Big band at the Standard bank National youth Jazz festival in Grahamstown.

At age 18 to the present, Anathi became the lead vocalist for the Little Giants Big Band, performing with them at the Standard bank National Youth Jazz festival in Grahamstown, the Tittiesbaai Jazz on the Rocks as well as Jazzathon – amongst many others.

In 2018 Anathi was picked as one of the soloists for the Artscape Youth Jazz festival held every year and this opportunity brought forth great exposure and smaller gigs from it.

Currently she is obtaining her Bachelor of Music degree in Jazz Vocal studies at the University of Cape Town.
