The Rocky Horror Show comes to The Fugard.
It is 40 years since Richard O’Brien’s iconic rock musical was first staged at the Royal Court Theatre in London. Outrageous then, it still thrills audiences globally with its provocative, irreverent, ant-establishment call for personal freedom.
The all-South African cast puts on a great show, brilliantly directed by Matthew Wild. The opening night audience were thrilled with this show that really ROCKS!
Inspired casting includes stars Paul du Toit, Jenny Stead, Pierre van Heerden and, as Dr Frank-n-Furter, Brendan van Rhyn – was this role specificallycreated for this statuesque and charasmatic star?
Design reigns supreme. The visuals and entire set construction bedazzles. The choreography is no rehash but edgily superb. The direction is extremely sharp and innovative.
The show is the perfect pre-cursor for Cape Town – World Design Capital 2014.
Rumour has it that Richard O’Brien is heading to the Mother City to see this re-creation of his classic rock opera.
