Sanlam Arts Round Up on Fine Music Radio

Tom Cullberg talks about his exhibition Local Stories on the Sanlam Arts Round Up on Fine Music Radio. And the good news is a walkabout on Saturday 23 at 11h00!

Listen to the Sanlam Arts Round Up on Fine Music Radio FMR 101.3fm every Friday at 16h15

In his interview Tom takes us from Sweden, where he was born, to his arrival in Cape Town in 1993.  He talks about books both from a literary and visual perspective and how this personal dialogue informs his work.  He references Curiosity Cabinets, but his installations hew to a more contemporary and impressionistic tradition of cabinets created by private individuals to enshrine personal experience.

  • The walkabout at the Barnard Gallery at 11h00 on Saturday 23 April will give you a chance to engage with the work and the artist.  Be curious and come and enjoy this interaction with Tom Cullberg – Local Stories. He has lots of stories to tell.

“Their meaning is not easily fixed,” Cullberg insists. “I am creating a set where things are happening. These works are about a painter looking out at the world, not inward. I am interested in how objects like books and albums can act as portals to stories, memories and associations for the viewer.” – Excerpt from Time, memory and experience: An interview between Sean O’Toole and Tom Cullberg published in the book Local Stories available to order here or in the gallery
