Two Oceans Aquarium countdown to Plastic Free July

by | Jun 25, 2019 | News | 0 comments

Two Oceans Aquarium will be sharing stories and activities pertaining to Plastic Free July, throughout the month of July.  These stories will focus on raising awareness around the problems, the solutions, as well as people who are making a difference through their actions.

  • Did you know that 80% of the pollution in the ocean, originates from land?
  • Or that South Africa is the 11th largest global contributor to that pollution?
  • And that scientists are predicting that by 2050, there will be more plastic in the ocean, by weight, than fish…?

The Aquarium is also putting in place some on-site activations for Plastic Free July.

Hayley McLellan, is Two Ocean Aquarium’s Environmental Campaigner, and has made incredible inroads with the Rethink the Bag campaign. Hayley has been working tirelessly at having the plastic shopping bag banned in South Africa. Her dogged determination and passion have seen individuals, companies, retailers, schools and community organisations, commit to either banning plastic shopping bags, or phasing them out over time.
