Two Oceans Aquarium Dive School hosts UCT Underwater Club’s Diver24

UCT Underwater Club sets a 24-hour dive challenge – their fundraising initiative for ocean conservation at the Two Oceans Aquarium.

It is that time of year again! The Two Oceans Aquarium Dive School will be hosting the UCT Underwater Club’s Diver24 fundraising initiative for its 24-hour dive-athon. The initiative aims to have UCT Underwater Club members scuba diving in the Two Oceans Aquarium’s I&J Ocean Exhibit from noon on 4 March until noon on 5 March 2023. The aim is to raise funds for the Two Oceans Aquarium Foundation Turtle Conservation Centre and #SeaTheBiggerPicture. Donations can be made by clicking HERE

The first set of divers will enter the exhibit at noon on 4 March and the last set will exit the exhibit at noon on 5 March. This creates the perfect opportunity for visitors to the Aquarium to see the divers and interact with the students, who will be stationed in the public area of the exhibit.

“The UCT Underwater Club is proud to be hosting our annual Diver24 fundraising event at the Two Oceans Aquarium. Diver24 raises money by rotating scuba divers, who have booked slots, in and out of the water for a full 24 hours in the I&J Ocean Exhibit. We aim to raise funds for impactful and meaningful charities which work to better our community and our oceans through education and community action. This year we will be donating the funds raised to the Two Oceans Aquarium Foundation Turtle Conservation Centre and #SeaTheBiggerPicture.” – UCT Underwater Club

The Two Oceans Aquarium has hosted the event since 2017, except for 2021, when the Covid pandemic temporarily halted the established tradition.

The Two Oceans Aquarium’s Dive School is proud to be taking the reins for the Two Oceans Aquarium and hosting the Underwater Club for the event this year. “Diving is a great way to explore our oceans, and to promote the importance of marine conservation. We offer a variety of different dive courses and experiences, focusing on skills development and underwater exploration” said Tersia Greenstone, one of the Dive School’s full-time instructors.

The Two Oceans Aquarium Foundation sees this as an opportunity for alignment with #SeaTheBiggerPicture as both organisations work towards the protection of marine wildlife and ocean wellness through rehabilitation, education, and research. The Two Oceans Aquarium Foundation places strong emphasis on wildlife conservation, including a dedicated turtle rehabilitation and release programme run by the Turtle Conservation Centre. #SeaTheBiggerPicture is a non-profit organisation focused on coastal environmental education and ocean pollution awareness.

Be sure to stop by the Aquarium on 4 and 5 March to see the UCT Underwater Club’s Diver24 in action – the perfect time to ask about learning to scuba dive if you’ve ever been curious. Closer to the event, we will take to our social media with hashtag #Diver24 and live updates will be given via Twitter and Instagram during the event. Leading up to the event though, every effort is being made to push the fundraising effort. Donating is as easy as clicking this link https://www.backabuddy.co.za/diver24.
