You wanted Watershed back at Kirstenbosch Summer Sunset Concerts – and now they are!
With six albums, multi-platinum sales and numerous awards, the uber-legendary Watershed will be celebrating twenty years in the industry on Sunday 8 December 2019 at Kirstenbosch Summer Sunset Concerts, in association with Old Mutual.
Due to massive popular demand, Watershed are super stoked to be back at Kirstenbosch with some greatest hits and newer tunes off their ‘Harbour’ album – they say that the musicianship is incredible, the vocals predictably powerful, the song structures original and the lyrics are breathtakingly honest!
Watershed – a South African music success story
Now a household name, this South African music success story has had a hit list of singles that way surpasses the years they’ve been rocking. Remember ‘Indigo girl’, ‘Fine Way’ and ‘Letters’ to name just a few? Moving abroad, the band has performed alongside some of the biggest names in world music, such as U2, Peter Gabriel, Bob Geldof, The Corrs and The Cranberries – and opened for James UK at Kirstenbosch and Roxette.
Craig Hinds is on vocals, keyboards/guitar, Howie Combrink on drums/guitar, Gideon Botes on electric guitar, Quintin Askes on bass and Paul McIver on acoustic guitar. They’ve also developed an epic new show, which sees Combrink move back onto the full drum kit for the bigger Watershed songs. The show moves comfortably between acoustic sounds with pianos, mandolins and ukuleles as the driving instruments, to electric guitars for a few other tunes.
Hinds, also the songwriter for Watershed, has built a career on lyrics and melodies that have resonated consistently with fans and the band’s following is still growing at a phenomenal rate.
“It’s always a rush seeing the people arrive when the gates open. The buzz is amazing! Obviously, Kirstenbosch is a stand-alone beauty, but I think when music is added and a great vibe, it just becomes super magical” says Hinds.
Besides celebrating their 20th anniversary, Watershed have big plans in the pipeline for 2020, including another studio album and a European tour.
